The Mansion boutique hotel
Designed by Diana Nitreanu, The Mansion boutique hotel is a luxurious yet relaxed old city center destination with a refined sensibility. The history and the symbolic representation was the inspiration for the design identity of the property and its deep-rooted storytelling.
The Mansion Boutique Hotel is located in the Old Center of the Capital, a vibrant and lively place where the old and the new come together in a harmonious way, where the traditional decorations keep hidden the history of Bucharest from the past. This area is pedestrian-only, ensuring a quiet, car-free environment that invites guests to wander and explore at will.
This legendary place pushed us to find out more about The Mansion building and we discovered that Alexandru Protopopescu, a well-known architect, lived here in the 1850s-1870s. He used the building as a commercial center, with food, fur and hat shops on the ground floor, while on the first floor, the rooms were rented out, having the character of a hotel. Being close to the royal house, even King Carol I was rumored to have visited his architect friend, discreetly participating in some balls and parties organized here. The treasurers of the Belgian royal house, led at that time by Leopold I, as well as members of the family of Prince Florestan of Monaco, also spent the night in the small hotel.
Today, completely restored, the old hotel has been “dressed” in new ways, but has kept the noble air of past times. The architect transformed the place into a welcoming, comfortable and accessible guesthouse, perfect for those who want to combine fun in the center of Bucharest with business meetings. The hotel operates as a boutique with 19 personalized units, each room has its origin, its story, its energy and uniqueness. The experience of each room is a trip into time, whether we are talking about modern trends such as contemporary, minimalist, industrial, or classic ones such as gothic or vintage, each different space tells a story full of color and imagination.
Punctuated throughout with artful interpretations of intimate elements, the lobby lounge and restaurant embodies the luxuriously relaxed vibe of the hotel, informed by the city’s rich history, iconography, climate and local culture. Once you walk in the space, you feel a connection with the outdoor through a smooth transition of cubic stone that highlights the continuity effect with the historical streets of the city center. The design leads the way to the reception area that was intended to make you feel as in your own living room, at home, with that feeling of familiarity.
“The Mansion” is a sophisticated project where history and modernism, the past and the present meet in a perfect elliptical frame, right in the center of Bucharest.
