With an emphasis on materiality and detail, Diana Nitreanu’s design makes abundant use of white and smoky grey hues, custom-designed natural wood furniture, linear and flowing architecture, as well as punctuated elements that serve as a high-end aesthetics that provides the necessities of the business.
The starting point was the creation of a pilot fitness studio, with an area of 70sqm, which would represent the beginning of an international franchise. The fitness studio uses exclusive EMS training programs. The basic concept proposes a reduced area, hence the need for efficient thinking where functional elements are accompanied by a series of design representations. The space was created in a flexible manner, so that it can be replicated in any rectangular area of 70 m2.
The project is a design experiment on parametric silhouette, using materials in neutral tones, creating a uniquely experience through elements integrated in a bespoke environment. The composition highlights a surprising mix of fluid forms, on a minimalist background, using combinations of natural elements such as wood, stone and indoor plants alongside with high-tech materials such as epoxy resin or Corian. In direct relationship with the beneficiary’s requests and with attention to the future client of the studio, it was desired to offer high quality services in an attractive environment, in which the interior design reflects the same standard. The shades used are white, gray and turquoise, the latter being the focal point discovered in lighting and in certain main pieces of furniture such as: costume stands, dressing room cabinets, make-up room shelves. An important role in emphasizing the design elements was the mix of illuminated soffits with indirect lights, warm lights, highlighted by jointing details that give the feeling of floating, space, dynamism.
The studio is divided into the welcoming area – with reception, bar and networking / lounge area, workout area and refreshment area (changing rooms, make-up, showers and toilets). Each of these spaces have been considered to create a comfortable atmosphere with attention to detail, quality and design. The furniture is completely made to order, designed modularly, so that it can be assembled, disassembled and transported to any future location.
The reception area – located at the entrance, is made up of a single piece of furniture that unites the reception with the bar and the lounge area. This takes place against the background of beech lamellar sections, obtained through digital fabrication and parametric design with fluid, irregular shapes. The game of sections has defining points of height and depth, adjusted in relation to the curved shapes of the human body.
The reception’s main part is made of MDF painted in white, which turns into a waiting area. The elements for the seat are marked by the same beech as the lamellar sections. Indoor plants were proposed as design accessories, but at the same time they are given another connotation, on an energetic level: they inspire, improve health, raise morale, inexplicably create a state of well-being for employees and customers, resulting in a productive space.
The workout area – represents the 2nd key element of the studio. It highlights the same type of curves as the front wall, made from transparent material, on a contrasting background printed with motivational messages.
The Refreshment area (changing rooms, make-up, showers and toilets). The main purpose of this area is to relax, backed by appropriate materials that provide this state of being: natural stone – beige travertine, white sanitary, epoxy resin for the floor – was chosen for its appearance but also for its qualities, such as high resistance and hardness, its glossy surface facilitating cleaning and easy decontamination.
